The property, originally built in 1940 as an addition for R.J. Reynolds tobacco manufacturing, will have 163 loft-style apartment homes, with seven penthouse units featuring picturesque views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and downtown Winston-Salem. Whitaker Park is adjacent to Wake Forest University and close to the Innovation Quarter, among the fastest-growing, urban based districts for innovation in the United States. Amenities include a seasonal saltwater pool, bowling alley, a 24-hour fitness center, and a rooftop community lounge. In addition to the one-, two- and three-bedroom lofts, construction will begin in mid-2022 on a 125-room hotel slated toward visitors and traveling athletic teams. Plans call for 150 more apartment homes along with retail and restaurant options.
